More About Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a full-contact martial art. Due to its development from a martial art, the techniques are limited to very efficient ones. The foundation of these techniques are the eight weapons of Muay Thai. These consist of the fists (as in classic boxing), the elbows, the shins, and the knees.

A characteristic technique is the bare shin kick, usually aimed at the thigh, rib area, or head. Depending on the rules and the fighter's professional level, knee kicks to the head may be permitted. In this case, the opponent's head may be pulled towards the ground with the fists. In a clinch, the opponents stand, try to unbalance each other, and kick the opponent's upper body or thigh with their knees. Some rules allow catching and then holding the opponent's leg. Due to the high risk of injury from elbow and knee techniques, Muay Thai is considered one of the toughest martial arts in the world. The punching techniques are similar to traditional European boxing, but turning strikes are also permitted, with the back of the fist hitting the opponent's head. Some styles allow throws.

In addition to mastering these technical basics in all possible combinations, a successful fighter is characterized by his experience, physical fitness (stamina, explosive strength, flexibility, coordination), a strong will and, last but not least, courage and ambition.
